Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

As we make our way through the second half of October, that means that our next “Bring a Friend to Church Sunday” is coming up fast! On October 29th, we encourage you to invite friends, family and coworkers to share in the experience of the Holy Spirit in this place. As usual, we will have a potluck lunch following the service. All are invited to bring a dish to share, but if you can’t, please bring yourself to share in the food and the fellowship. As an added bonus, before the service from 10:10-10:25, there will be a Sing Song, where we will raise our voices in praise sharing in familiar favourites.

But we have a whole week before that! On Friday October 20th, our Youth Group meets again at 6:30, so if you have youth middle school aged or up, send them over. Due to an injury youth group will meet not at the church but at Unplugged at 6:30, for a board games night, and pick-up is at 9 pm. at Unplugged on Queen St.

Join us Sunday morning for worship from 10:30-11:30. This week we will be hearing the story of God calling David through the prophet Samuel. This reading can be found in 1 Samuel 16:1-13. Here we see that the way God chooses people is not always how we might expect.

We also hope that as you seek to deepen your faith that you check out our various gatherings through the week. There are Women’s and Men’s groups who gather on Monday and Wednesday nights respectively. Both groups are making their way through the book “Bullseye: Aiming to follow Jesus”. Come and join in as we explore who we are as a people of faith, and how we might strengthen our relationship to Christ, the one who calls us in and sends us out. Seniors have an extra opportunity to explore and deepen their faith on Tuesday mornings at 10 am with the Seniors Bible Study.

We’d also like you to consider, if you are able, pausing midweek to take in some special time with God. So often we are on the go and it can be hard to take even 5 minutes out of our day to talk to the one who loves us so deeply and completely. Imagine if we only talked to our spouses, partners, or friends once a week? Let’s build our relationship with God as we gather for Prayers in the Ladies Parlour on Wednesday mornings at 10.

As we look forward and mark our calendars for important upcoming events, please make a note that the UCW will be putting on their annual Bazaar on November 4th this year. It will run from 9-12 with the sale taking place in the gym downstairs and a luncheon upstairs. All are invited, so tell your friends!

In case you missed signing up for mincemeat pies, the UCW have made extras. Talk to a member of the UCW if you are interested in taking home a treat!

We also want to thank everyone who came out to welcome the refugee family we are hosting. Fatima, Amar, Lean, and baby Omar were surrounded by love and support, and you are a part of that caring work.

Rev. Richard continues his work as President of the Maritime Conference this weekend. He will be representing The United Church of Canada here in the Maritimes at the Annual General Meeting of the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Blessings,
Rev. Richard & Rev. Michelle
